All Saints Day

We can imagine the communion of saints as a giant stadium of people, all of whom have run, or are running, a great race.
As each of us takes our turn at the starting line, we are lifted up by the love and encouragement of all those who know well the challenges ahead of us and who have stayed to accompany us and cheer us on.
“It is a matter of being inspired by the whole lot of them, this cloud of witnesses to the living God.” writes Sr E. Johnson, quoting:
Hebrews (12:1-2): “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us”

¯ For All the Saints Who’ve Shown Your Love  arr. John Bell
For all the saints who’ve shown your love, in how they live and where they move.
For mindful women, caring men, accept our gratitude again.
For all the saints who loved your name, whose faith increased the Savior’s fame.
Who sang your songs and shared your word, accept our gratitude, good Lord.
For all the saints who named your will, and showed the kingdom coming still.
Through selfless protest, prayer and praise, accept the gratitude we raise.
Bless all whose will or name or love reflects the grace of heaven above.
Though unacclaimed by earthly powers, your life through theirs has hallowed ours.

¯ Heaven And Earth Are Filled – C Grundy – live recording on mobile phone.
Heaven and earth are filled with the light of the saints, who have gone on before us,
shining around us still as we’re running this race,
grateful our path is lit for us.
