Just a few thoughts
From the Plenary Council
T
Yesterday the Plenary Council reflected on the
way the Church is dealing with its response to the Royal Commissions findings -
an extremely serious and painful task. Have they really done their best for the
victims? And for the Catholic community itself?
T
From the previous day I picked out a number of thoughts
–
It looks like the Council is seeking articulation of proposals not formal
motions. The proposals will be studied and at the next Plenary Council sessions
in 2022 they will be formed into motions. The 46 bishops will then vote on
them. They have the final say.
T
The feeling amongst lay Council members is that
they want to be heard, listened to, not ignored.
T
Take the Church to the people where they are –
don’t dwell on the past.
T
Synodality means walking and working together as
equals.
T
The Church must seek to go from top-down control
to a conversion to communal participation.
T
Governance
according to the Vatican II model – a vision of service – start at the
community level.
