Jesus talks of burdens

Just a few thoughts

·       "Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; from discord find harmony; in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." -- Albert Einstein

·       In a world where so much is vying for my attention each day: work, family, advertisements, notifications etc. I was reminded that I also need to be aware of those things that aren’t necessarily “beeping”, “pinging” or “vibrating” for my attention. The language of consolation is more often tenderness and gentleness. -- Isaac Demase SJ

The heart of the matter

Just a few thoughts

·       Planned Unemployment
We are being told continuously by our governments that the most important thing for our well-being is to have a job. We need to all be at work; no unemployment and all our lives will be wonderful.
We are also told by our economic managers that in order to keep our cost of living down we must raise interest rates, so that at least 4 or 5% of our people need to be unemployed, so that the rest of us can have a reasonable life.
And guess what - the most unemployed people in Australia are its First Peoples!
There must be a better way.
Change is essential.

·       "Every heart that has beat strongly and cheerfully has left a hopeful impulse behind it in the world, and bettered the tradition of mankind." -- Robert Louis Stevenson

·       May Christians, above all else, be known for their love of neighbour, especially those who are needy and poor.

God relates to us on the basis of what we need rather than what we deserve.

Just a few thoughts

·       "Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough." -- Franklin D. Roosevelt

·       I’m reminded of the power of the prophetic path to create solidarity where it least seems possible, and to enhance compassion for the suffering of others and the suffering of the world. But what are we to do about the troubles of the world? ... to discern the signs of the times, and to be an ever-present balm in a troubled world.…  -- Barbara A. Holmes

Australia is the only former colonial land that does not recognise the original owners of the land in its constitution

Ø Last week the Australian Catholic Bishops released their annual Social Justice Statement.
Each year it explores a topic of social justice significance. It provides information and guidelines for consideration by all people, not just Christians.
Sadly it did not receive a mention in our parish. There was a time when these very important statements were strongly promoted and made available in the parish church.
Here is the Front Cover. It links to the Statement.
