Let us do good for everyone.

Just a few thoughts

·         Brrrrrrr……..  The last day of Autumn!

·         Today’s readings offer some choice. So, I have chosen from Paul’s Letter to the Romans

The reflection about this reading is in the last part of this article.

·         Our parish bulletin mentioned a group called SA Catholics for an Evolving Church. Just the title alone right away raised my level of interest. Sadly, the advertised event happened last week! I will find out more about this organisation.

·         Our celebration of Trinity Sunday focussed on the 3 ”persons” making up the Trinity, that is one eternal God. Why is the Church still talking in those terms when the concept of ‘trinity’ is something completely different? Only Jesus was a “person”.

·         We pray for Christian faith communities of every kind, that they bear clear witness to the love eternally shared between Father, Son and Spirit. (Pause for silent prayer) Lord, hear us.

"Have faith in God."

Just a few thoughts

·         We are celebrating Reconciliation Week. It is a crucial aspect of Australia’s history.  I strongly recommend that we really and truly study this issue to reach a just understanding of our responsibilities to recognise the need to seek a considered treaty with the Indigenous Peoples of this country.

·         This is a rather heavy set of links. They are crucial to our real understanding of the nature of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in their own lands! Please do take the time to learn more about this issue.

Prayer is a humble dialogue with God to grow spiritually and discover his will for the world.

In prayer, it is God who must convert us, not we who must convert God,” he said.

Just a few thoughts

·         National Sorry Day - We pray for the whole Australian community, that National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week will promote mutual respect between the First Nations and settler peoples of the land.  --  Lord, hear us.

·         National Sorry Day

·         I don’t really know what reconciliation means any more.

It’s been 20 years since we walked over bridges, signed petitions and wrote sorry in the sky, over 10 years since we said we were going to close the gap, 30 years since we held a royal commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody and 30 years since the Yothu Yindi song Treaty was number one on the pop charts.

But why does it feel like we still can’t shift the dial on black and white relations?
Why, when we ask for a constitutionally enshrined voice to oversee our sovereign rights is it met with political obstruction?
Why can’t people see the logic?

I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace.

Just a few thoughts

·         Hi, we are online again. Our “overseas” break left us without internet services for a while.

I make 2 observations about parish bulletin.

1.      Did anyone else feel uncomfortable about so much space in the parish bulletin being given to an issue being discussed in Parliament, in this case the Euthanasia Bill?
I very much prefer such issues to be discussed in a separate Notice, as was done the previous week.

2.      Is the size of the print in the bulletin decreasing to such an extent that a magnifying glass is needed to read much of it?  I prefer having a constant size and style for all notices.

Reflection.
