I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

Just a few thoughts

·         The Parish Pastoral Council AGM was held last night. About 20 parishioners were present. There were 5 vacancies on the PPC and there were 10 candidates. This was a great situation, where there were more candidates than vacancies. So, as far as I can recall, this was the first time for many years that a vote was required. The candidates were requested to introduce themselves and give some idea as to the way they thought they could contribute to the work of the parish.

o   The candidates should have been introduced to the parishioners at weekend Masses.

o   The parishioners should have been given the chance to learn what each candidate saw as their role as a member of the Parish Pastoral Council.

o   There were no reports from the Finance Committee or any of the parish support groups that were such active community builders in past years.

Let us pray that the new Parish Pastoral Council will be able to rebuild the strong sense of community that we used to have.

·         The CathNews website features an advertisement for a conference to be held in September. It is organised by Mission Australia and Catholic Religious of Australia. The conference is called Mission—one heart, many voices. It lists many excellent speakers. I looked back into the history of this Conference. It was last held in 2019 and here is a video of 3 speakers at that conference.
Sit down, turn up the volume and take to heart what they are saying. The video.

Reflection.

ü Thank you, Thomas, for asking that question. All we need now is to make the answer the centre of our living.

There is just one mission – to bring about the Kingdom, the Reign of God in the world.

Just a few thoughts

·         Tonight at 7pm is the Parish Council AGM. Please be there. It’s our parish and we should decide its path ahead.

Just a few thoughts

·         We pray for all who have been wounded or traumatised while on active service or peace-keeping assignment. May they be given the support they need to find healing in body, mind and spirit.  --
 Lord, hear us.

·         The parish AGM is on Thursday at 7.00pm in the Parish Hall. 12 people have been nominated. Unfortunately, we do not know who they are. I assume there will be an election to choose a certain number of parish councillors.

I am the good shepherd.

Just a few thoughts

·         Today is Good Shepherd Sunday. ABC TV program Landline is one of my favourites. Last Sunday’s episode featured the story of a woman who made goat Feta Cheese. Every goat in the herd had a name. They all responded to the woman when she called a name. Amazing! It is Christ’s story!

·         Today is ANZAC Day. We acknowledge the futility of war. We commemorate the victims of war.
We pray for all defence and auxiliary personnel who have lost their lives in theatres of war, especially members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. May they live forever in the peace that only Christ can give.  --  Lord, hear us.

“Whoever eats me will draw life from me.”

Just a few thoughts

·         My apologies!
I completely overlooked the fact that yesterday was Earth Day. Such an important day reflecting on a massive issue confronting the people of the world.
Pope Francis has written about it in great detail. And overnight the world’s leaders have been meeting online to focus attention on solutions that will prevent the world from catastrophe. Let us pray and meditate on what our spiritual conscience tells us to do ourselves to help solve this serious problem.

Reflection.

Christ lives in me

Just a few thoughts

·         Some months ago I blogged about a sculptor who had made a table at which Jesus sat ready to share bread with anyone willing to join him.
Today I read a comment about being in church…….We sit in church looking at the back of the heads of others. Shouldn’t we be sitting around a table looking at, and sharing with others the breaking of bread and behaving like the hands and feet of Christ in support of each other? We are the living “Body of Christ”.

·         We pray for world leaders at this week’s global summit on climate change. May they unite and intensify their efforts to care for Mother Earth.  --  Lord, hear us.

I AM the bread of life.

Just a few thoughts

·         Planning begins for Laudato Si’ Week  --  On last Tuesday evening, 16 people from 10 parishes and schools gathered to discuss how the Archdiocese will celebrate the week-long event from May 16-24.  I wonder if our parish had a representative.

·         The parish AGM is on 29th April at 7.00pm in the Parish Hall. We have 12 Nominations for the available positions. I was surprised that the candidates were not introduced at Mass yesterday.
