Magnificat!

 Hello Tranmere Community

India-Independence Day
After three decades, the Indian independence movement, led by Mohandas Gandhi, achieved its goal on this day in 1947 as a free and independent India was established, ending nearly 200 years of British rule.
Have a great day all our Tranmere Indian parishioners!
Our parish St Vincent de Paul Society Conference is twinned with 3 SVDP parishes in the state of Kerala, South India.
You can find out more about them on our Parish Website

ü  Awe, Wonder, and Love   Is this describing Mary?

The Parish Choir members are saying ‘Hello’.

I have enjoyed listening to many versions and compositions of songs about Mary and for the sake of variety have chosen these. I hope you enjoy them.

¯  Ave Maria - M.Lorenc

¯  Magnificat  -  audio track

¯  Ave Maria  -  Caccini

¯  Magnificat - Giovanni Gabrieli

¯  Ave Maria  -  Ashana

One thing that really struck me was the vast predominance of western visualisations of Mary. We know that is not a true depiction. I was always impressed with the statue of Mary we used to have in our church, completely copper coloured like the Stations of the Cross and an apt universal and inclusive depiction. I wonder where that statue is?

Bits & Pieces

On Thursday we had the story of the Homeless Jesus sculpture.
It reminded me of a set of startling sculptures that Sheila and I met in Dublin when, quite a few years ago, we were lucky enough to visit that city. It showed people affected by the Irish Potato Famine. Click on the little photo.
