For the 7 years after our Josephite
SA Reconciliation Circle witnessed onsite the shameful passing of the 2007 NT
Intervention legislation in the Senate with the combined Coalition/Labor vote.
(It was also accompanied by associated
government cuts to community funding; cessation of the Aboriginal Work for
the Dole scheme; winding back of the permit system to enter Aboriginal
lands;& the ruling to cease bilingual schooling)
Later Intervention legislation
(renamed 'Stronger futures') was shamefully extended by the Gillard government
for a further 10 years.
