ü If the Church is to remain relevant, if it is to continue speaking in a meaningful way to rapidly changing world, if it is to keep up with the new knowledge and ideas which change our ways of understanding the world in which we live, it has to renew itself constantly

·        Last night I joined a Zoom meeting organised by the ‘SA Catholics For An Evolving Church’. There were 43+ people attending. The theme of the meeting was ‘Synodality and The Adelaide Diocesan Assembly’. I found it very interesting, and I can see that the Adelaide Diocese has a big challenge ahead in order to hear the voices of the “people of God”. Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.

Just a few thoughts

·        At Sunday Mass I learnt that on Tuesday evening a Youth Consultation will be taking place at Hectorville Parish in preparation for the Diocesan Youth Assembly planned in August. Why such short notice?
We were not told if any parish youth representatives have been elected/ selected/ volunteered for this Consultation. Why not?
As far as I know nothing has happened in our parish to prepare for this Youth Assembly nor the General Diocesan Assembly in preparation for the Plenary Council. Why not?

·        Great work from parishioner Sue W. in presenting the great story about the artist Voitre Marek and his connection to our parish church. Check it out here

"Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?"

Just a few thoughts

·        Because of the coronavirus, Pope Francis gave his extraordinary blessing “urbi et orbi” (to the city and the world) in an empty St. Peter's Square at the Vatican March 27, 2020. He said:

Like the disciples in the Gospel we were caught off guard by an unexpected, turbulent storm. We have realized that we are on the same boat, all of us fragile and disoriented, but at the same time important and needed, all of us called to row together, each of us in need of comforting the other. On this boat … are all of us. Just like those disciples, who spoke anxiously with one voice, saying “we are perishing” (v. 38), so we too have realized that we cannot go on thinking of ourselves, but only together can we do this.

Reflection.

ü Reflections with Fr. Michael Kelly

ü The Church then is like a small, fragile boat in a huge and often hostile world. Sometimes storms broke out and threatens the boat-Church. The early – and also the subsequent – Church suffered many persecutions and movements determined to wipe it out.

·         This blog project has made me so much more aware of Gospel Values and how they relate to life today.
I am convinced that the life of the Catholic Church today should be centred more around Catholic Social Teaching then ancient traditions modified into dogmas and set in concrete.
