Hierarchies of superiority

Just a few thoughts

  • "For what it's worth ... it's never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of, and if you're not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again." -- Benjamin Button

  • May all who are tempted to make a show of their religious practices learn how to be humble in their love of God and of neighbour.

Gossip

Just a few thoughts

  • "I am old but I am forever young at heart. We are always the same age inside. Know that you are the perfect age. Each year is special and precious, you can only live it once. Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!" -- Richard Gere

  • May we all seek that conversion of heart this Lent, through which we face the reality of our sin and experience the forgiveness of Christ.

  • We pray for international leaders and all whose wealth and status gives them unchecked power over others. May they renounce the idol of tyranny and become agents of God’s new world

A glimpse of glory

Just a few thoughts

  • "Bad news is: You cannot make people like, love, understand, validate, accept or be nice to you. You can't control them either. Good news is: It doesn't matter." – Anon

  • During this Lent may we rely on the power of God to bring us to holiness for God’s own purpose and grace.

Loving enemies

Just a few thoughts

  • "Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff." -- Catherine M. Wallace

  • May those who are collating the contributions of all who participated in the Dialogue Week in preparation for the Diocesan Synod do so prayerfully, accurately and patiently.

  • May we have in our hearts the power of God’s love so that we ourselves can love, even our enemies.

The sure foundation

Just a few thoughts

  • "Other people and other things can stop you temporarily. You are the only one who can do it permanently." -- Zig Ziglar

  • We pray for Archbishop Patrick as he celebrates the 11th anniversary of his Ordination as bishop today, that he will be clothed in holiness, wisdom and compassion as, in this Dialogue Week, he now leads us toward the Diocesan Synod.

  • We pray that we will live by the golden rule given to us by Jesus and found in many other religions, through which we treat others as we would like them to treat us

Fear dominating debate.

Just a few thoughts

Daily perseverance

Just a few thoughts

  • Leadership is lifting a person's vision to high sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations. -- Peter Drucker

  • May the strangers in our midst, especially those who are refugees and those whose status is unclear, be welcomed, treated with respect, and given the opportunity to see their dreams fulfilled.

  • We pray for the members of our parish community. May we help each other pray more deeply, give more generously, and fast more faithfully through this season of Lent.

The way of love, which is deep, unspectacular, and powerless.

Just a few thoughts

  • Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny. -- Lao Tzu

  • May this Dialogue Week, gathering together parishes and ethnic communities, schools and colleges, religious and Church places of care, help make fruitful the Diocesan Synod.

  • We pray for all the followers of Jesus. May they relish the gift of Lent and choose to be renewed in faith and mission.

The company Jesus Kept

Just a few thoughts

  • A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves. -- Lao Tzu

  • May all people of every nation and religion may learn to do away with the clenched fist and the wicked word, so that they can feed the hungry and help the oppressed.

  • We pray for all whose belief in God has become weak and unsure, that this year’s season of Lent will rekindle their faith and revive their following of Jesus.

Life is indeed transient

Just a few thoughts

  • The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant. -- Max DePree

Understanding what we see and hear

Just a few thoughts

  • "Nothing, Everything, Anything, Something: If you have nothing, then you have everything, because you have the freedom to do anything, without the fear of losing something." -- Jarod Kintz

  • Lenten Group Discussion booklets were available at church. It’s years ago since we last came together in groups for Lent. What a pity.
This year’s focus is on the Adelaide Diocesan Synod 2026. All of us are encouraged to listen, learn, discuss the future of our diocesan church. What a pity this focus is not apparent in our parish. Shouldn’t we take the opportunity to participate as a parish?

Motherhood

Just a few thoughts

  • If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire: if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them. -- C.S. Lewis

  • We pray for parents worried about the health and wellbeing of their children that they may receive the help they need.

  • We pray for the vast number of earth-dwellers now vulnerable to life-threatening weather. May world leaders do all in their power to cut fossil fuel emissions and halt global warming.

Lourdes

Just a few thoughts

  • The only path to serenity

Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill.

Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt.

Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench.

Care about people’s approval and you will be their prisoner.

Do your work, then step back.

    The only path to serenity.

    ……...Tao Te Ching

  • We pray for those who are deprived of adequate health care, that governments will not neglect them, but see the needs of such people as a matter of urgent justice.
